Frequently Asked Questions

The Wildlife Registration Solution

We built the solution to run on all devices – iOS and Android. However, the version of the operating system can have an effect on how well the app performs.

For Android we recommend the operating system to be version 7.0 and above

For iOS we have not detected any issues in regards to versions of operating system.

The choice of hardware is completely up to you. But naturally, a poor quality tablet can give a poor user experience of any app.

The report sums up your monthly recordings in a simple table as well as presenting a series of graphs and insights. See an example of a monthly report right here.

The monthly report contains wildlife recording data from the 1st of every month to the last day of every month.

We do our best to make sure you have the report in your email inbox within the first week of the following month.

Should we be running late, you can expect it by the latest during the second week of the following month.

The short answer is: yes 🙂

Give us a call and we’ll start the dialogue regarding how the Ascend Recording App can become a perfect fit for your airport.

The number of users in the pricing table refers to admin users, meaning the type of users that can log in to the Ascend Service and configure the input in the app, such as adding species.

The number of bird controllers in the pricing table refers to the users of the app – most often these are bird controllers.

The app needs internet connection to run as intended. However, if it should loose internet connection it will automatically store all completed recordings until internet connection is restored.

The 13 km Satellite Survey

Depending on where on the globe you are situated the satellite passes in intervals of 2-6 weeks.

At Ascend we manually check all the satellite images before we upload them to your account, to weed out the images that are so cloudy or dark that you cannot detect landscape changes in them.

The resolution of Sentinel 2 satellite images is 10 meter per pixel. When we create images for our Satellite Monitoring Service we do it with a 15 km radius – resulting in an image of 3000×3000 pixel per image.

Even though the resolution always is the same, the actual visibility can differ quite a bit depending on the light that day and level of clouds.

If you are interested in seeing an example of a satellite image from your airport, please don’t hesitate to ask us!

In predefined time intervals you will receive a report that makes it fast and easy for you to go through the entire Safeguarding Zone and detect potential landscape changes, by comparing two satellite images from the same area.

This report is currently under construction but we are almost there – if you are curious to see how it will look and work for you please get in contact and we’ll be more than happy to show you!

The Obstacle Management Solution

As soon as Ascend has received the AIP for your airport our Obstacle Specialist registers all obstacles published in your AIP, so they are available for you to work with in the service when you start.

In case you have new obstacles that are not yet published, we will show you how to easily register them in the service.

You can register all obstacles penetrating the AOC surfaces in the service – again, we are happy to show you how to do this.

Ascend can perform two annual shadow calculations, upon request.

You simply let us know that you need an export of your obstacle data and we will send it to you in the right format ( AIXM 5.1 ) for you to pass on the authorities.

Normally we can get this done within a 2-4 days.

The practicalities

Yes, we offer free trials on all* our services and from our experience that is a great way for our customers to see first hand how the solutions creates value for them.

* Unfortunately we cannot offer the Obstacle Management solution including the digital terrain model as a free trial, as the costs of acquiring the data are quite steep. However, we are very much capable of showing you how the service functions – just let us know and we’ll set up an online demo meeting with you.

We are open to alter the terms if they do not suit your organisation.
